Our client is reshaping the cryptocurrency market with a steadfast commitment to transparency and safety, guided by its core principle: #boringbutsafe. It provides secure, transparent crypto-backed lending solutions that let individuals and businesses unlock liquidity from their digital assets without selling them — and unlike many in the space, it never rehypothecates client collateral. Alongside its lending business, the company’s OTC desk facilitates large-scale cryptocurrency trades with competitive rates, swift execution, and full transparency.

As the company continues to grow, it is looking for a Deputy CTO to work as a close technical partner to its CTO — someone who can help translate complex technical concepts for clients and customers, contribute hands-on to the platform, and help shape engineering direction. This is a unique opportunity to operate at the intersection of technology, client relationships, and strategic decision-making within a fast-moving, security-first crypto company.

The company is seeking a hybrid technical leader and trusted right hand to the CTO — part senior engineer, part strategic advisor, part client-facing technologist. The successful candidate will split their time between hands-on engineering work and supporting the CTO in client and partner conversations, bridging deep technical detail and business needs. This role suits someone who wants genuine ownership and executive-level visibility, sitting just below the CTO with a clear path to grow alongside the business.

Tech Stack

  • Frontend: React Native (Expo), TypeScript, TailwindCSS

  • Backend: Node.js (NestJS), MongoDB

  • Infrastructure: AWS Lambda (Serverless Framework), DynamoDB

Responsibilities

  • Work directly alongside the CTO on architecture decisions, platform strategy, and technical roadmap planning

  • Join client, partner, and prospect calls to speak credibly to the company’s lending and OTC infrastructure, security model, and technical capabilities

  • Translate complex technical and crypto-specific concepts (custody, collateral management, settlement, security architecture) for non-technical stakeholders

  • Design, build, and maintain core platform features across the lending and OTC systems

  • Own the design, security, and reliability of the Partner APIs that institutional and partner clients rely on for lending, settlement, and custody workflows

  • Help evaluate and implement security best practices across the stack

  • Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions with compliance, operations, and leadership

  • Deputise for the CTO where needed — reviewing technical proposals, vetting vendors/partners, and driving technical due diligence for institutional clients

  • Mentor other engineers and help scale engineering processes as the team grows

  • Stay current on developments in crypto lending, custody, and market infrastructure

Requirements

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience, including senior or lead-level responsibility

  • Experience in crypto/blockchain, fintech, or financial services (lending, trading, custody, or payments preferred)

  • Strong communication skills across clients, executives, and non-technical stakeholders

  • Hands-on experience with the listed stack

  • Demonstrated experience designing, securing, and scaling partner-facing or third-party APIs

  • Solid understanding of security best practices for financial data, digital assets, and API/integration security

  • Proven ability to work closely with leadership with a high degree of trust and autonomy

  • Experience with backend systems, APIs, and infrastructure at scale

  • Comfort in a fast-paced, high-accountability startup environment

  • Must be based in or willing to relocate to Sydney

Desirable

  • Direct experience with OTC trading desks, crypto lending platforms, or digital asset custody solutions

  • Familiarity with blockchain protocols, wallet infrastructure, or smart contracts

  • Prior experience in a client-facing technical role

  • Background in regulated financial services and compliance considerations in crypto

  • Experience presenting to institutional clients, investors, or partners

  • Experience with serverless architectures and NoSQL data modelling at production scale

What’s on Offer

  • A high-impact, senior role with direct exposure to leadership and strategic decision-making

  • The opportunity to help shape the technical direction of a growing crypto-lending platform

  • A security-first, transparency-driven culture (#boringbutsafe)

  • Competitive compensation package (salary/equity/bonus TBC)

  • Sydney-based role
